VC series energy saving and protection control for fixed frequency AC induction motors
1. Start-up control – Soft start: VC series equipment have the ability to easily adjust to the characteristics of motors for all types of applications, the soft start-up time can be adjusted according to the requirements (0~255 seconds).
(a) For situations with a high inertial load, it can provide low current start by limiting current
(b) Kickstart feature can overcome the problems of static friction or high initial loading start-up.
(c) The effect of VC series equipment is similar to an electronic clutch when considered from an aspect of optimal control; it can gradually increment the torque, slowly and uninterruptedly increment speed, and reduce the stress exerted on the motor during the start-up/stop phases.
(d) The use of the VC series equipment has the following advantages: evident increase in the protection of contacts and service life of connected components; can prevent voltage drop during start-up in larger motors; can provide use for more production equipment with a single power supply; the motor can be switched at any time through a lower starting current; decrease of the peak demand penalty.
2. Optimal control during operation – Optimal efficiency.
(a) Because of the different applications for motors, they usually have different duty cycles; many motors operate with loads of only about 50%, resulting in low efficiency during operation; the high waste of energy resources not only increases electricity costs, but also heating of motor during operation, vibrations and increased deterioration, breakdown and signal interference for the equipment.
(b) The VC series equipment can quickly detect actual changes in motor voltage and current, under periods of 0.01 sec; it can determine the size of phase angle to cut by mode predictionusing the lagging phase. The system can precisely control the voltage and current input to the motor, precisely controlling torque output of the motor, and perfectly matching with the load torque. Reducing the actual input voltage: in the case of light load, about 20% reduction. Reducing the actual input current: case of light load, about 30% reduction. The above featuresreduce damage to connection lines, increasing efficiency of motor operation; increase power factor, reduces kvar, reduces motor operation temperature; achieves three-phase motor output (torque) optimization and almost perfect balance, reducing motor vibrationsand reducing speed of axle assembly deterioration.
3. Stop stage control – soft stop
(a) When using pumps, it is common to encounter incompressible fluids instantaneouslyappearing in sealed tubes, which can dramatically increase the damage by water hammer.
(b) By using a DOL motor starter, the system head can quickly overcome motor inertia; therefore, the pump will also stop operation quickly, creating instantaneous pressure increase (water hammer) in the tubes, inducing damage to the tubing or the equipment in general.
(c) Despite using soft start to prevent water hammer, VC series equipment also has a soft stop feature aimed at water hammer problem during sudden stop of the machine; it can be set to arrange the instantaneous torque before stop to block water hammer or inverted current effect from happening.
(d) Because the VC series equipment can precisely control the motor torque output, the pump progressively comes to a stop by using soft stop control, which effectively reduces the water hammer effect to minimum.
